The Change Foundation transitions from The Games to the Next Step

The Change Foundation team training at London Stadium for marathon event.

August was a big month for Street Elite, as young people from across the programme came together to celebrate what they had achieved and start thinking about what comes next.

First up was the Street Elite Games at the London Community Stadium, celebrating our young people successfully graduating from the Training Phase of the programme.

The day brought Street Elite cohorts together from across London and Birmingham for some friendly competition, plenty of fun and the chance to try different sports. More than anything, it was an opportunity to celebrate the confidence, friendships and skills they had built throughout the first part of their Street Elite journey.

Later in August, we swapped sport for the world of work with our Next Step Summit at 2 Temple Place.

The Summit was created for young people who were still figuring out their next move, whether that was employment, an apprenticeship, education, training, entrepreneurship or simply exploring what opportunities are out there.

We were joined by employers, training providers and industry professionals including Transport for London, London Fire Brigade, Capital City College, MadiganGill, Keltbray, Urban MBA, London Tigers, Berkeley Group, HomeGrown+, Westminster Employment Service, The Skills Spot, QPR, Trailblazers and IGXU.

Across the afternoon, young people could meet employers, get CV and interview support, take part in a public speaking workshop, get a professional headshot and hear different career journeys and perspectives during our World of Work panel.

The two events captured the Street Elite journey perfectly. The Games were about celebrating how far our young people had come. The Next Step Summit was about helping them work out where they might go next.

For some, that next step is already underway. For others, they’re still figuring it out. That’s exactly what Street Elite is here for.
