There’s a new sport coming to The Change Foundation, and it’s one that brings discipline, focus and self-belief with it.
Thanks to funding from the Kimunyong Foundation, we’re getting ready to launch Taekwondo 4 Change, our latest sport-for-social-change programme.
We’ve teamed up with Aquila Taekwondo, who will provide qualified Taekwondo coaches to work alongside our Social Change Coaches. Together, they’ll deliver weekly sessions at our HQ for young people, including dedicated sessions for young people with disabilities, as well as six-week introductions with local schools and community groups.
But this won’t just be about learning kicks, blocks and techniques. As with everything we do, the sport is the starting point, creating space for young people to build confidence, develop transferable skills, look towards future employment opportunities and support their emotional wellbeing.
We’re aiming to get the first sessions underway from 1 October, opening up another way for young people to discover what they’re capable of, both on and off the mat.
Taekwondo is new to Change. The reason we’re doing it is anything but.
