Street Elite defies the rise in youth unemployment

COVID-19 continues to have a negative impact on the economy and as a result, youth unemployment is at an all-time high. In June-August 2020, 581,000 young people aged 16-24 were unemployed, an increase of 35,000 from the previous quarter. Despite this, Tommie, and Caleb, two of our young people from Street Elite, successfully completed their work placements and are set to start their careers.

During Caleb’s placement, he was recognized for having amazing attendance and punctuality, which is often an ongoing difficulty for young people going into work placements. Following the completion of his plumbing work placement with Berkeley St George property development, Caleb is now at the next stage of training before a real job opportunity.

Upon completion of his job placement, Tommie was offered a full-time job at the Sovereign Court site, which is a part of Berkeley St George’s property development. Tommie has expressed how grateful he is for the opportunity he was given, which has allowed him to turn his life around.
