The Change Foundation Showcases Social Change Practice at INSA

This month, members of The Change Foundation team travelled to Loughborough University to support the third annual International Network of Sport Anthropology (INSA) Conference.

Bringing together researchers, practitioners and organisations from across the world, this year’s conference explored the theme “Living with Sport”, examining the role sport plays in shaping everyday lives, relationships and communities.

As an organisation that uses sport as a catalyst for social change, it was a fantastic opportunity to bring together academic research and real-world practice.

Throughout the conference, our team volunteered to support event delivery while building new relationships with researchers and practitioners who share our belief in sport’s power to transform lives.

We also delivered an interactive workshop, giving delegates the opportunity to experience some of the games, conversations and reflective activities we use every day within our own programmes. By sharing practical examples from our work with young people and communities, we explored how sport can create safe spaces, build trust and support lasting personal change.

The experience reinforced the importance of collaboration between research and frontline delivery, ensuring that evidence and lived experience continue to inform one another.

A huge thank you to Dr Ben Hildred, founder of the International Network of Sport Anthropology, for inviting us to be part of this year’s conference, and to everyone who welcomed us into the INSA community.

We’re already looking forward to continuing the conversation next year at the University of Greenwich. See you there!
