“Sport for development” is the targeted use of sport and physical activity to achieve specific social development objectives. There are currently four key social objectives that are globally recognised as sport for development targets. These are education, social inclusion, child protection, and empowerment.
We are incredibly proud to actively support all four of these targets across each of our 14 existing programmes. We are also immensely proud to have a network of representatives from our charity that actively work within external sport for development networks.
Our charity has always believed that we must work together with other sport for development networks so that we can share our achievements… and failures, in order to create more opportunities for young people to succeed.
Our Director of Design and Impact Navjeet Sira is currently an Impact Working Group Co Chair for the Sport for Development Coalition. This UK wide network of over 200 representatives allows UK sport for development organisations to work together in providing life changing sports opportunities.
Additionally, Vicky Lowe our Chair of the Board of Trustees is the current Executive Director of the Commonwealth Sport Foundation; a global foundation that works together with 72 countries to deliver life changing sports programmes.
Vicky shared: “Almost all of us have faced challenges as a result of the pandemic, but for the UK’s most vulnerable those challenges have been exacerbated. They are most at risk. I couldn’t be more proud of the work of The Change Foundation, our staff and coach mentors, our networks and our partners who have innovated, adapted, collaborated and who continue to find new ways to reach young people through sport.”
Our charity has always welcomed partnerships that are guaranteed to benefit young people. We look forward to growing our external network of sport for development partners so that we can continue to learn from them and share our own successful experiences.
