TCF at the Disability Sports Coach EastGames

On Wednesday 17th April we took some of the young adults from our London Futures East hub to the DSC EastGames, organised by Disability Sports Coach. 3 years after the last running, the Britannia Leisure Centre played host to 82 participants coming to play a wide range of sports including: basketball, boccia, badminton, freestyle dance and football. TCF went along to promote our London Futures East employability programme for young Londoners with learning disabilities and mental health problems, running weekly at Stormont House School, Hackney Downs, and to network with the other local organisations providing activities and support for young adults with disabilities.

The whole event was excellent and we’d like to thank our good friends DSC for inviting us along.  We are organising to go and visit some of the DSC community club sessions to promote our programmes so more people with a disability have more opportunities. We are also taking some of our young adults from London Futures South hub to DSC Club Sutton to provide our young adults with further opportunities.  More information about the DSC community clubs can be found here.

One of our young people had this to say about the day:

“I enjoyed playing football and meeting new people, as well as having something active to take part in during my half-term break. I would like to attend future sessions and events with them. I was able to learn a new journey as well, so I know how to get to and from the Britannia Leisure Centre from my house”.

London Futures Manager, Ryan Jones added:

“It was great to be part of the DSC East Games to celebrate disability sports provision in East London, meeting so many like minded organisations and providing more sporting opportunities to young people who are part of our own programmes. We look forward to continue information sharing with DSC and visiting some of their Community Clubs with our young people in the coming weeks”.
