Sadness at loss of ‘A Legend’ who led the way

It is with great sadness that The Change Foundation has been informed of the passing of a great friend, David Townley, this week.

David, also known as ‘DT’, was a great friend and supporter of The Change Foundation’s work and most specifically our work with blind and visually impaired young people.  David became known to the charity when he played for the England Blind Cricket team, originally coached by Andy Sellins, now CEO of The Change Foundation.  Not only was David totally committed to playing cricket but also developing it to the benefit of others.

We were thrilled to include David in the ‘Cricket4Change Pirates’ teams that travelled to Barbados in 2008, Jamaica in 2010 and then again Barbados in 2013, the latter being where David was a coach and role model inspiring the visually impaired young people.

David showed the young people how, despite being blind there was still much to be achieved in life.  There are few who had the stories that David had to share reflecting his rich and full life.  David had humility, calmness, humour and an interest in others that will leave a hole in the lives of those who knew him.

As it was said on a number of occasions by the young people on our tours with David, “DT is a legend”

All at The change Foundation would like to pass on their sincere condolences to David’s friends, family and loved ones.
