Charlie’s Angel visits Netball4Change
On Wednesday December 4th our Netball4Change session at St Martins High School for Girls in Tulse Hill received a celebrity in the form of Ella Balinska, one of the stars in the 2019 remake of the iconic Charlie’s Angels film. The visit was arranged by our partners at Laureus Sport for Good.
The recruitment process for each school in the programmes shows which specific areas they wish to work on and we then tailor each session to fit the needs of the individual school. For example, some schools have a lot of highly active users of social media. Others have experienced problems with a lot of trolling online, while still others have issues with e-safety. This group of 6th form students were selected as they are normally very inactive physically yet very active on their phones and social media. The young people were so engaged with Ella and were so excited to meet her. They asked her lots of brilliant questions about her experience both on social media and as a young woman from London trying to make it big in Hollywood.
As a county level netballer at school, Ella got fully involved in the netball games and had great discussions with the young women. She even extended her support to them, saying ‘If you ever want to reach out just dm me on Instagram and we can talk about anything’.
Overall it was a brilliant session and a group that were already starting to come out of their shell have taken a huge leap forward with this experience, really starting to understand the value of being physically active. Thank you to Ella and to Laureus for this opportunity.
